May 4th 2014 – Common Threads, Wearable Art Showcase
This entry “Ebb & Flow”, created by a design team from the Wanneroo Rugmakers group using traditional rughooking techniques, has been selected as a finalist for the Common Threads Wearable Art Showcase to be held on Sunday afternoon at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
May 17 and 18, 9am-5 pm – Open Studio
Indigo Blues, sea greens, golden yellows and of course a dash of pink. And one last detail, some good old fashioned fringing!!!
I collected my images for these pieces on a recent trip to Stradbroke Island.
Simple shells, sea weed , barnacles and even crabs captured my imagination.

Karen Kaiser Design Class image of poppiesKaren will give a short talk about herself, her background and who she is today. She will explain: how she creates a piece to look simple, yet effective and talk about the Elements and principals of design and will guide you to design a small, simple rug of your own, using these elements of design.
Karen will bring a package for each participant containing linen backing, a variety of fabrics “for your hooking pleasure” and a printed handout and will communicate with you before this class to tell you what you need to bring.

Karen will give a demonstration of casserole dyeing, dip Karen Kaiser Images for Dye and Apply classdyeing and marbleizing and will show how to apply these dyes to effectively create background and shaded areas in your rugs.
A package for each participant will contain linen backing, wool for hooking a sky and yarn for embellishments and a printed handout.

December 4, 2014 has been declared International Hook-In-Day by TIGHR (The International Guild of Handhooking Rugmakers) in celebration of the organization’s 20th Anniversary.
Members are meeting friends for lunch or tea and bringing along their fibre projects. Events promoting rug making techniques are planned in public spaces and shops. Participation is open to all rugmakers round the world visit www.tighr.net to learn about TIGHR
