History of Australian Rug Hooking

This Section is under construction –  How it will work :-

The Australian Rugmakers Group (formally known as Australian Rugmakers Guild & Rugcrafters Australia Guild) will document the revival of traditional rughooking in Australia and the Group’s attempts to network with Fibre Artists throughout the South Pacific

Headings will feature, by name, Australian Rug Hookers and rughooking events covering various rug making techniques prior to the formation of the Rugmakers Australia Guild in 2008.

Information regarding these rug hookers and events (by Group members and others) will be posted under the appropriate headings, along with articles from magazines and links to  supporting websites.

This is an open (moderated) forum and we encourage anyone who has any information to add, or who can see where corrections need to be made, to contact the Editor at  rughookingaustralia@gmail.com so the site can be updated and provide a clear record of the rugmaking craft as it has been practiced in Australia.

Some of this historical information has previously been published in Guild rug hooking newsletters  which were in print form from May 2008 to Dec 2013 when the format changed to an emailed newsletter and then to the current Blog.

Copies of these newsletters are archived on this Groups Website under “Blog” along with copies of newsletter sent by our members i.e. “Connecting Us” by Miriam Miller.

You will also find copies of articles from craft magazines, both from Australia and overseas, about rugmaking/rugmakers in Australia.   These articles  will be included where permission has been granted from the publisher.
